I did this piece as love to a special person and as an inspiration for us to dream. Because of the intense suffering and persecution that many people within the Americas had suffered, I believe we tend to be rigid in our desire to dream. We tend to be boxed in in how we envision our futures and frequently repeat the same rhetoric and cultural norms of the past because we feel that we must relive them in order to validate our way of life and existence. The Reign of an Empress is imagining a world where she rules and patriarchy and systems of male domination give way to a different perspective on how the world could be governed.
