Foreign Policy, in the context of subduing other nations, has been the greatest threat to the common people throughout history. It can fall under the banner of imperialism, as well as today's terms of helping or policing the world. Historically powerful nations, both past and present, have all played a part in doing this. There are two reasons (that sometimes work together) why nations do this: 1) to protect their boundaries through war and/or divide and conquer methods, and 2) to gain or maintain advantage by taking the resources of the other nation. The problem with the above is that the greed of leadership, government or otherwise, never have/had the best interests of common people in mind, so common people always suffer. I did this piece to reflect the imbalances of power and how nations wielding said power, within the world, harm lives needlessly. DEOZI! The answer is yes and no. While a crime fighter in the comics, on television shows, as well as movies, do a service for humanity, we don't see many fighting on behalf of the family. From the vigilante with no powers, to the extrordinary being wielding a great amount of power, most are NOT FAMILY ORIENTED! In the real world, they would be as useless as a deadbeat daddy. So a father is NOT a superhero in this sense. Fantasy makes us imagine that a superhero is one with the ability to perform feats that only exist (presently) within the mind. However, a father that takes care of his family, spiritually, economically, lovingly, etc., has more power than anyone can imagine. Why? He has the power to not only support life, but maintain a qualitative existence for his mate (s) and the children he loves (biological or otherwise). A responsible and prioritizing father has the power to destroy, or keep at bay, dysfunctionality. Dysfunction is the demon that many of us struggle with the most. In this sense, a father is indeed the hero of the household, and by extension, the community, and the nation. DEOZI! For Artwork Services, Contact deozi@deozi.com The powerful Zemi (god) of fertility and water is Atabey. Atabey is the Ancient Native American equivalent to the Virgin Mary (Miriam). As Mary is said gives birth to a Son named Jesus (Yehoshua/Yashua/Iesoos) while a virgin, Atabey, a more ancient Mother, also had a virgin birth by producing Her Son Yucahu (the root of the Yuca, which is Cassava). This also means that Atabey is equivalent to Aset (Isis) of Ancient Nubia and Egypt , and Neith (Anat/Tanit) of Ancient Egypt, Canaan, and Carthage. So Atabey, is the Mother of the Supreme Being, as according to Yamaye doctrine (Yamaye is the name of the Indigenous People of Jamaica, who now exist as Maroon descendants). This Zemi is a powerful protection when it comes to childbirth. Atabey was invoked in order to prevent the mother and child from the dangers of delivery. Her image is always seen within the delivery position (which is associated with both African and Native American peoples). She is also associated with pure waters and is represented by the symbol of the Caribbean Frog. My art depiction shows Atabey in the same position of childbirth. I have not personally seen any artistic rendering (aside from the original petroglyph) of this Mighty Zemi of Life, so I decided to make one. Another reason is that, many of us are not only children of Africa, but also of the Native American. Deozi is also the seed of the Guyanese Arawaks, and the Yamaye that were mixed in with the Ashanti, the Fon, the Congo, and Moors, on the Island of Xaymaka (now called Jamaica) during wars against the Colonialists. DEOZI! For Artwork Services, Contact deozi@deozi.com WHO SAID THAT LITTLE PEOPLE WEREN'T GREAT? 07/22/2011
We have heard of the diminutive Bes, the Neter (god) of Childbirth blessings. A very small being that is endowed with powers. He was glorified by the Nubian Egyptians. The recognition of small beings foundational divinity is, however, not only localized to the Ancients of the Hapi/Nile River Valley. They were also recognized among the Akan Nations. These Beings were a part of the Powerful Abosom, a collection of empowered nature elementals that dictate the affairs of the planet, as well as people. The names of these Abosom are MMOATIA/MMOETIA (depending on the text). They are said to dwell in the African Rainforests and are said to represent three different colors according to some sources. These colors are red, white, and black, with two of the former being volatile and powerfully aggresive, and the latter passive, yet still powerful. There are also said to be able to turn their feet backwards (similar to the famed being of the forest Sasabonsam), and are extrordinarily knowledgeable skilled in medicinal herbs. Now with that being said, we must keep in mind the Twa people, those that are derogatorily called Pygmies. In many sources, the Twa are the Original Peoples of the Planet. They are held that way by anthropological sources, as well as those of secret fraternal orders. It would not be a far cry that the MMOATIA originate from the Twa since the Akan had many dealings with their community and the Twa originally inhabited the Forest. If this is the case, the Twa are not only the Original Abosom, but to use English terms, are the ORIGINAL 'GODS' OF THE ENTIRE WORLD! DEOZI! Tano and Bea are the powerful Abosom (gods) and children of the High Powerful Nyame Anansi Kokuroko and Asase Ya. While Nyame had numerous children and offspring, Tano was the favorite. It is said that Tano was secretly destined to receive the best blessings from His Father. Bea found this out through a goat being and because of it, was able to cunningly capture the blessings of His Brother (This sounds strikingly similar to the Jacob and Esau story of biblical texts). Tano and Bea are Powerful Beings of the Water. It makes sense that they would be since their Parents are Controllers of Heaven and Earth. As said in other descriptions of art, I did this interpretation of these Abosom because a part of my bloodline is Akan Asante, and I had never seen anyone artistically depict any of these Mighty Beings from the Akan peoples. Now is the time! DEOZI! For Artwork Services, Contact deozi@deozi.com THE RETURN OF THE EMPRESS! 07/02/2011
Because of the dawn of younger religions that replaced many ancient indigenous religions of the world, the standard of women being a symbolic vehicle for Absolute Reality and Absolute Creative Fertility had been cast down and replaced by an exclusive male archetype. In the old ways, seeing the Creator within a feminine principle, alongside the masculine, was not seen as something awkward or unusual. Conquerors stemming from the younger religions thought it was unfit because their creator either represented a male or masculine energy; or, at the very least, thought that Creative Supremacy had to be spoken about via the masculine pronoun or tense only. DEOZI thought it not insulting or demeaning to reclaim the ancient symbol of the Woman. The Empress is a piece of art representing the High Powered Beings like: Yemoja, Atabey, Oya, Mamiwata, Asase Ya, Kitami Nyabinghi, Nehanda Nyamhika, and My Ancestor SAABA. They are All Powerful expressions of Life Makers and Takers! Their presence was there alongside the masculine principle. Let us bring them back! DEOZI! NYAME ANANSI KOKUROKO, also known as NYANKONPON, is the Highest Creator Being as according to many West African Peoples (particularly the Akan Asante). He is the Father of All Creation. Nyame (God in the Twi Language) is known for His Fathering of three particular children: Tano, Bea, and Kwaku Anansi. His wife and consort is Asase Ya, the Earth Mother. According to tradition, Nyame, being Lord of Life and Death allowed death to take Him. He overcame it with His Powerul Antidote to show forth His power. This is why when a person dies, they are not truly dead. Within them is the Kra or life essence that came from Nyame. In my interpretation of this Highest Being, I included an Adinkra on top of His Head as well as around His Neck (Adinkras are symbols that convey spirituality, philosophy, history, and culture, of West African peoples). The symbol on top is the Gye Nyame, which roughly translates to except the Creator, in English. This means that there is no one else but the Creator that created everything there is. The second Adinkra is Osran Ne Nsoroma. This Adinkra not only symbolically represents the moon and the stars, but also expresses balance or equilibrium between man and woman. As above, so let it be, below. DEOZI! For Artwork Services, Contact deozi@deozi.com AFRICAN EARTH MOTHER: ASASE YAA 06/17/2011
ASASE YAA, whose day of birth (Yaa) falls on the Christian Calendar day of Thursday, is Nyamewaa (goddess) and the personification of the planet many people call Earth. She is also identified as the First Woman in the form of Aberewa. She is wife and consort of Nyame: Anansi Kokuroko, the Creator of All. She is the mother of the famous Kwaku Anansi, whose legend had survived in the Americas despite attrocities against humanity. Her other two sons are Tano and Bea. The sign on top of Her Head is called an Adinkra. Adinkra symbols are from the Akan Peoples and convey messages of wisdom, history, and spirituality. The reason why I did this piece is because I never saw any interpretation of Her artistically. DEOZI! For Artwork Services, Contact deozi@deozi.com! KWEKU ANANSI is the one of the children of Nyame: Anansi Kokuroko (Creator) and Nyame: Asase Ya (Mother Earth). His siblings are Tano and Bea. The symbol on top of His Head is called an Adinkra, which are symbols that convey wisdom, history, and theological ideas of the Akan peoples. Kweku means born on the 4th day (wednesday in English). Anansi is the Lord of Science, Topography, History, Cunning, and assisted in the construction of the world. This is my interpretation of this Mighty Nyame (Abosom) that has been the stuff of varying children stories in the Americas (Nancy in the North and Anansi in the Caribbean). I grew up on stories of the Mighty Lord Anansi as a child in the Caribbean. We thank the Abosom (Ancestors) for preserving the ideas via the folktales. It's now time to understand the full presence of Lord Anansi! DEOZI! For Artwork Services contact deozi@deozi.com WITNESS THE POWER OF SET! 06/11/2011
This is a character inspired by the Original Set/Sutukh/Setesh of the ancient stories of KMT. The original character was represented as a combination of different animals, as patron of foreigners and business, and as one of the elements such as earthquakes and sandstorms. Set was a being originally dedicated to protecting Ra during His travels in the Solar Barque while help keeping Apep, the being of Chaos at bay. In later times, Set became similar to Apep in that he also became a being of chaos. He represented murder, betrayal, and a host of other attrocities. Set is most famously known for His murder of his brother Asar (Osiris) and battling Asar's son (Heru/Horus) for the same murderous act and redemption of Egypt. My interpretation of Set represents one of the animals (looks similar to the aardvark) his glyph represented, and also the image of pale skin and red hair that the Ancients usually associated with foreigners towards Lower Egypt. Set was historically a Defender of Justice, a Harbinger of Balance, as well as a symbol for the outcast, the foreigner, and economic ventures. Set can be seen as representation of the lower self in all of us. DEOZI! For Artwork Services Contact: deozi@deozi.com |
