In this world, the imagination has laid the basis for our pleasure, comfort, and security, as well as our damnation, fear, and danger. Imagination leads to human ingenuity and the same leads to inventions. Inventions can be beautiful if responsibility, concern, and morality, are in their proper place. Inventions impact our reality and change the way we behave, reorient our philosophies, our religious beliefs, and how we communicate. Our greatest help in the physical world are inventions that help us with our ailments whenever we are born with a disability or perhaps one that comes about by accidents. Since it's in our nature to depend upon inventions to help us because of convenience or perceived limitations, it's not hard to imagine that the inventions would start to help us in their own way. This would happen when we decide to renounce responsibility for ourselves, and in turn, eventually allow this type of technology to take over our reality altogether. We see these outcomes in movies like The Matrix, Total Recall, Vanilla Sky, Existenz, The Truman Show, Pelican Brief, Minority Report, Terminator, Lawnmower Man, Surrogates, Avatar, Bionic Man, Battlestar Galactica, and a host of others. While those things are usually seen in Science Fiction, the beginning of their reality is here with us now. All the stuff to make it happen are apparently in separate places in this time. Allow me to show you the ingredients. To Totally Take Over the Human Mind, One Would Need: 1) Brain-Computer Interface: Connection to Electrical Impulse 2) Neuro-Prosthetics: Technology that substitutes physical senses 3) Bionic Limbs: Technology that helps in mobility 4) Artificial Intelligence: Computer/Bio-Brain that replaces our mind 5) Viable Energy Sources:used to fuel the system 6) Hypnosis: Helps to foster control over humans involved 7) Multidimensional Computer Generated World Program: New world for the slave to occupy BRAIN-COMPUTER INTERFACEThe Brain-Computer Interface technology has made many strides when considering humans and animals alike. Animals have been used to test electrodes put inside the brain to record signals in order to recreate the images of what the animals were shown (movies) by the scientists. This was also done within humans as well. They were able to see accurate images of what was viewed by the participants involved. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-fE9QBy0FI http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brain%E2%80%93computer_interface NEURO-PROSTHESISWhen thinking of a need to replace motor functions in the body that are controlled by the brain, technology can substitute this by giving a replacement for the damaged area of the body. For example, the ear's sensory areas as well as the eye's, in this day and time, can be replicated; giving the individual a degree of sight that will make them functional (at least minimally) in society. The field is growing by leaps and bounds. In the above picture is an example of one of those prosthetic applications controlling a computer limb. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NypA012A4zE http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neuroprosthetics BIONIC LIMBSThe Bionic Limb is an invention that calls for a reordering of nerves where the missing limb used to be so that communication between artificial limb and brain can take place. Thus, it can do everything that the former limb can do (at the very least, at a rudimentary level). The above is an example of a replacement of a missing arm. There are other forms of bio and mechanical interactions. There is the replacing of organs within the body such as the heart. There is also technology that can be made to simply control organic limbs as well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6R5bm6qx2E http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biomechatronics http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biomedical_engineering ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCEArtificial Intelligence is an attempt to duplicate the cognitive processes that come with the consciousness of the brain. Specifically, scientists want to be able to duplicate reasoning, planning, intelligence (social or otherwise), learning, language comprehension, manipulation, motion, and creativity. Many attempts have been made to accomplish this; and there were successes in some areas and failures in others. Nonetheless, there has been strides in the field; and the latest AI that is popular is the famous WATSON that was featured on the Jeopardy program. What is really very interesting is that there is an argument concerning the silicon having a limit when it comes to advancing computers; the further advancement, the less stable or reliable silicon chips as a foundation, would be. So the next would be to start creating processors (for intelligence) on the atomic level, and it has already started. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artificial_intelligence http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PW8rgKLPHMg Viable Energy SourcesOf course, one would need significant power to make such a sophisticated balance of technology to come about. There would be no need to fret because energy sources are in abundance: electrical, solar, algae, corn, oil, charcoal, and the like. These sources are out there and can facilitate the need for creating a technological dynamic that can totally takeover the needs of the human body and mind. The mind, in particular, would need complex imagery for it to cooperate with the technology and the same has to make sure a mind stimulated with real world conditioning, can still appreciate it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alternative_energy_sources http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oIU5fFmDeSc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xbLACcUN4fQ COMPUTER GENERATED WORLDSThe mind would need a super digital fantasy and computers can make it happen. The idea of computer generated worlds are common knowledge nowadays. In a sense, the internet itself is a computer generated world that we are existing in now. In fact, I am participating and promoting the use of this world because it is part and parcel of my life (I can still remember a time when it was not in commercial use). One day we may connect to the internet in a way that is being described in the other ingredients that's mentioned. Some would say the internet is already doing what I am trying to describe. It might be. Anyway, the point is there are worlds on the net that can simulate, to an extent, real life worlds. And since technology advances, it is not unreasonable to think that the graphic representations of those worlds will not become more photorealistic as time progresses. One such world is called Second Life (represented in the picture above). Usually digital worlds have a purpose to it, which is the fundament principle of gaming. Second Life, however, has no purpose at all. In fact, the user apparently defines their own purpose inasmuch as that world can be similar to our real time world. This is just a glimpse of what the future has to offer. Imagine that computer generated world hooked up to the brain and the stimulation can be felt throughout the body. Imagine that world being influential in the real world as how jail inmates can affect people on the outside world with little or no physical contact but through a medium for communication. It is not hard to conceptualize that this type of world can work together with another world in some form or another. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3gHCupXSMs http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_Life HYPNOSISWith the many advertisers, military regimes, and psychological experiments throughout history, it would not be a farfetched phenomena that computers can condition human minds. We see these scenarios done to lab animals in order to get them to respond to what scientist wish them to. The human can be the same animal; just with a more complex computer to train them. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypnosis CONCLUSION: PUTTING THE PIECES TOGETHERSo now we see that all the ingredients are within the world. It is similar to how there are deadly compounds that can be created but in their base forms are relatively harmless. We know these base parts and we probably use them everyday in our households or in our environment but never really know the rammifications of what happens when we put them together. Only a chemist would perhaps know those outcomes. The same is to be said for our technologies today. They are the base forms waiting to be attached to form a new type of power this world has not seen or appreciated.
Once the artificial intelligence is perfected to a level where it can be interfaced, neuroprosthesis can replace sensory organs (forcefully or otherwise), bioengineering controls the functions of limbs while bionics can replace them, and an imaginary world can be supplied by machines, this technological enslavement will achieve it's finest success. On the surface, no organized body of powerful humans have thought it a viable project to put all the parts together; to make a complete technological instrument that cater to the entire mind and body of the human being. It may not be plausible or reasonable at this stage, but with the increase in luxury, the lack of responsibility, the creativity of scientists to replicate life, and the unending urge of capitalism, it will definitely happen in the future. Moreover, the pleasures of a different life, which can be found in a highly sophisticated computer generated world, may be pleasing to those that personally consider themselves failures in society and desire to seek a chance at a new life somewhere else. A curious set of events may come into play when thinking of the implementation of this technology. Since power imbalances in the world exist, it is not unreasonable to think the same will occur in a digital world. The greatest power imbalances that we entertain in this day and time is under the umbrella of race, gender, god, and money. Each one of those mindsets have some, or one type of people, beneath an elite class of beings. How would all of them be represented digitally? Well, ultimately, in the worst case scenario, the highest elite class would be the computer tech itself. The elite classes of the world may only appear to have elite status to satisfy computer programming and needs. If a computer intelligence came to be in control, there may be a need for a theme or a philosophy to direct it's purpose. One of it's objectives would be to simulate or approximate these types of inequalities in order for people to feel comfortable with their existence. On the other hand, a utopian idea that goes contrary to those inequities can also do the same. We have already seen an example within the movies above. All being considered, it would still manifest within the computer imaging system it provides. The interaction between people and technology does not have to be enslavement if the right choices will be made. Those choices are to always maintain the age old wisdom character of our ancestors, and make sure that we do not allow an instrument to become our masters. It would be no different from us depending on other instruments (government, monarchy, cults, organized religions, elite classes, etc.) to tell us what to do. Instead of having the technology to take us over because of being laxed, we should make sure principles are instilled in our technological training, and safety protocols are placed within the programming of the technology, so that the same may become just an extension of who and what we are. The Created should never dictate the Creator. DEOZI!
